BritCham Season Opening: 11th Annual Curry Cook-Off took place on 14 September at the Star Lounge and terrace of the Albert Hotel. As always, this event with it’s warm and cordial atmosphere was the perfect setting for our members and friends to meet for the first time after summer.
Firstly, we would like to thank all of the teams! All of the curries were true treats to us all and we applaud your commitment and hard work. This year we had positively diverse dishes. British Embassy had prepared the only vegetable curry this year – it was truly a pleasure to try their Popadum Preach. The team Latvian Lynx also presented a one of a kind dish - Shrimp Banana Curry. However, one of the classic and well-known curries the Tikka Masala this year was made by an Italian team named Curry Nostra.
We all enjoyed and appreciated the various dishes, but judges also had to make the hard decisions of who will win the competition. Our thanks to Signe Meirāne, magazine “Četras sezonas” editor in chief and author of 9 cookbooks, to Sunny Motwany, owner of Indian Raja restaurant and to Kully Singh, owner of Singh’s restaurant who efficiently used their expertise and brilliantly handled the task.
Their decision was:
1st place, a gift certificate from “Singh’s” restaurant, Cobra Beers, Santa Maria gift bag, signed cookbook “Crazy-About” by Signe Meirāne, a certificate and the cup was presented to The Daugava Delights for their Lekali Lamb.
2nd place, a gift certificate from Radisson Blu Elizabete Hotel restaurant C.U.T., Santa Maria gift bag, signed cookbook “Crazy-About” by Signe Meirāne and a certificate went to Inter-Curry with their Chicken Madras.
3rd place, a gift certificate from Casa Nostra, Santa Maria gift bag, signed cookbook “Crazy-About” by Signe Meirāne and a certificate was awarded to Spice girls & Albert with Slow Cooked Spicy Chicken Curry.
The Daugava Delights also earned the most appreciation among the guests and was awarded title of the Guest Favourite (we still have a strong suspicion that singing was at the heart of their success :) ), a gift certificate and handwoven shawls (brought all the way from India!) from Indian Raja restaurant, Santa Maria gift bag, signed cookbook “Crazy-About” by Signe Meirāne, certificate and the cup.
For all of this, as well as the overall support of the Curry Cook-Off we wish to send thank-yous to Albert Hotel, Casa Nostra, Četras sezonas, Indian Raja, Santa Maria, Singh’s restaurant and Radisson Blu Elizabete Hotel.
