A team from the British Embassy Riga will be running in the Lattelecom Riga Marathon for a cause!
Help to make a difference! DONATE!
The British Embassy Riga believes that a small group of people can make a difference. With that in mind, a group of 15 representing the Embassy will participate in the Lattelecom Riga Marathon to raise awareness for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Latvia and to gather donations for Zvannieki Alternative Family Home.
To promote the culture of charitable donations and corporate social responsibility, the British Embassy Riga has invited the children from Zvannieki House and participants of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards scheme for a reception at the Residence today. The British Ambassador Ms Sarah Cowley and Mr Aigars Nords, the Riga Marathon Event Organiser, will deliver an inspirational speech followed by a moderate jog through Kronvalda Park.
British Embassy Riga will use this opportunity to emphasise that both causes are ultimately devoted to one goal - raising committed, responsible and fulfilled citizens. While the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award uses a personal challenge scheme to equip young people with such skills, the Zvannieki Team welcomes children that have been abused and removed from their homes and uses a personal touch to re-establish the trust, feeling of home, family and security for the children in need.
All donations raised up to the race on May 14th will go to the Zvannieki Home to support their aim of helping these children as they try to deal with their social, health, education, emotional and material welfare matters.
The British Embassy Riga welcomes you to visit the charity fund raising website ‘Just Giving’ and to consider a donation to the cause!

Promoting the culture of charitable donations
On April 7, the British Embassy Riga invited the children from Zvannieki House and participants of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards scheme for a reception at the Residence. The British Ambassador Ms Sarah Cowley and Mr Aigars Nords, the Riga Marathon Event Organiser, delivered an inspirational speech that was followed by a warm-up and a jog through Kronvalda Park.
The British Embassy Riga used this opportunity to promote the culture of charitable donations and corporate social responsibility in Latvia. Media coverage of the event helped to attract further donations and we hope this is the start of something bigger!
