On 28 January 2017 all Robert Burns and good party lovers gathered at the Radisson Blu Daugava Hotel for BritCham's 20th traditional Burns Supper. We are happy to say that we can add another fantastic event to our record.
Same as last year we raised donations for BritCham’s Charity Fund. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all our guests for giving so generously and especially to the Most Generous Table who for the second year in a row were the DHL table. Our raffle ticket sellers - Ieva Broka, David Callaway, Ilandra Lejina and Craig Thompson - were definitely kept busy. Our thanks to them for a job well done!
This year we had really great prizes and for that we have to thank our wonderful supporters: Albert Hotel, Aldaris, British Embassy in Riga, Casa Nostra, CBRE Baltics, Debenhams, Embassy of Ireland, ESPA Riga, ESTE, Glenfiddich, Globus bookstores, Indian Raja, King's College in Latvia, Norvik Banka, Oak Lounge, Radisson Blu Daugava Hotel, Radisson Blu Elizabete Hotel, Santa Maria, SemaraH Hotels, Singh's restaurant, Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia, Via Hansa and Young Riders School!
We would also like to thank all the speakers. Firstly, H.M. Ambassador Sarah Cowley for addressing the guests in the Patron's speech and proposing the Loyal Toasts; likewise, we send our thanks to Seymour Ferreira for Chairman's address. To our piper Iain Alexander Watson who gave an amazing (and in perfect Scottish) Selkirk Grace and Address to the Haggis we send our thanks as well. We are sure that such a dramatic Address our guests had not heard in years, if ever. And many many thanks to all those who splendidly worked their way through the traditional speeches - David Sim for To the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns; Nicholas Fry for Toast to the Lassies and Adele Stanford for reply on behalf of the Lassies. Last but in no way least, our thanks to Craig Thompson for taking charge of the evening as the MC.
We, of course, cannot forget the major contribution of RISEBA University and Vocational Secondary School VICTORIA! They made sure our venue looked festive and also helped us with practical tasks that made sure things ran smoothly during the event. However, it all was made possible by of our member and unwavering supporter Radisson Blu Daugava Hotel that once more provided the venue and general support for our event. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Another thing we just cannot be left unmentioned is dancing. This year our Caller was Ms Brigita Puriņa who together with her partner Mr Santis Puriņš helped everyone to remember and/or learn Scottish Dances. Which lead to very energetically and enjoyably spent time. Thank you!
At Burns Supper 2017 we had two excellent beverages - Glenfiddich whisky and Grand Cavalier wines. Big thank you for their support! After all it would not be a Scottish event without good whisky and what dinner is complete without fine wine, right?
One more special mention needs to be made - the Contributing Tables. We would like to send our gratitude to DHL, Eversheds Bitāns and King's College in Latvia for the support! We hope they had a great evening!
And, of course, we would like to thank all who attended the Burns Supper 2017 and for being with us at this very special and delightful event!
