On Monday 5 June 2017 Mr Keith Shannon arrived in Latvia. On Tuesday 6 June 2017, he called on President Vējonis to present his credentials and assumed his position as the new British Ambassador to the Republic of Latvia.
On Wednesday, the Ambassador met with representatives of the BritCham Board and we are delighted to announce that he has kindly agreed to continue the tradition of being the Honorary Chairman of the Board. In the evening, he attended and spoke briefly at our Sapphire Jubilee Garden Party. Here he was able to meet all attendees, the majority of whom were of course BritCham members and their families.
Born in Edinburgh in Scotland, Mr Shannon was educated at Craigmount High School and at the University of St Andrews, from which he graduated with an MA (Honours) degree in Modern History with International Relations. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1988. His most recent role has been as Deputy Director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2014-2017). He has previously served as British Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova (2009-2013) and as Deputy Head of Mission and Her Majesty’s Consul at the British Embassy in Vilnius, Lithuania.
It is clear that the Ambassador already has a sound knowledge of the matters that affect our region and the Board and Members of BritCham are looking forward to working with him.
