The main aim of the Pink Train Foundation is to raise funds so that women (and men) diagnosed with breast cancer in Latvia can receive professional, psychological support and physiotherapy. The Foundation's objectives also include the organisation of experience exchange for nursing and other staff working with breast cancer patients, as well as issuing informative material to those affected by the disease.
The Foundation raises funds by organising various campaigns and activities, as well as securing donations from individual donors and companies. Since its launch event at the British Embassy in April 2015, the charity has helped over 200 breast cancer sufferers, initially in Riga, but since 2017 has extended its services beyond the capital and is now offering counselling and/or physiotherapy in many of Latvia’s major towns.
The Foundation is run by a Board composed of 3 members, who are all currently offering their services on a completely voluntary basis. However, there is an enormous amount to be done in the field of support for cancer patients in Latvia and the Foundation hopes to grow into an organisation able to employ staff and continue the provision and expansion of its services.
