Navigating Sanctions Compliance: A Breakfast Seminar with BritCham, FIU and the British Embassy

Tuesday, June 4, 2024 - 08:30

On Tuesday June 4 at 8.30am ( to 10.30am) The BritCham in cooperation with the Financial Intelligence Unit of Latvia (“FIU”) and the British Embassy are pleased to invite you to a breakfast seminar on the ever evolving area of sanctions and what you need to be aware of to avoid the pitfalls of Latvian, EU and global sanctions compliance.

Since 1 April of this year, in order to bring greater clarity and consistency to the subject, the FIU has become the competent authority for sanctions implementation in Latvia who, among other functions, can grant exceptions to EU sanctions, issue binding decisions on freezing or unfreezing assets, provide guidance on sanctions implementation, and carry out other functions determined in the applicable laws.

In our breakfast seminar to be held at the FIU premises you will hear about and have the chance to ask questions on this tricky legal and business issue. In addition, we will hear from UK government representatives on why we here in Latvia, whether British or Latvian individuals or businesses, should be aware of not only EU but also other jurisdiction’s sanctions including in particular the UK’s and what are the main areas of difference between these jurisdictions.

Thanks to the generosity of the FIU for offering us the use of their premises at Vaļņu iela 28 and the British Embassy for providing coffee and snacks there is no charge for this seminar, but please only sign up if you are certain you will be attending.

If you have any particular questions or areas of interest you wish to hear about please share them with us at BritCham by writing to info@britcham.lv and we will share them with our presenters.
